Award-winning South African actress Brenda Ngxoli has officially joined the cast of The Queen, making her debut in Season 5 of the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela.
Ngxoli takes on the role of NomaPrincess “Noma” Matshikiza, a complex character with a troubled past and a R10 million debt owed to Harriet Khoza, played by Connie Ferguson.
Noma and Harriet share a long and complicated history that dates back to their days in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. Alongside their friend Dolly and Kgosi, the group hustled to survive in the city. Their paths later split when Harriet married Mzi, while Noma married aspiring politician Charles Matshikiza. After Charles’ political career failed, the couple moved into the construction business in the late 1990s.
The turning point came when the Matshikizas secured a major stadium construction tender linked to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Needing funding to start the project, they turned to Harriet and Mzi for help. After some hesitation, Mzi agreed to lend them R10 million. However, the loan was never repaid, and Noma and her husband disappeared while continuing to live a lavish lifestyle.
Now, years later, Noma returns no longer living the high life she once enjoyed. With the debt still hanging over her, her reappearance raises one big question: will Harriet forgive her, or is the past too painful to forget?
In an interview with Channel24, Ngxoli shared her excitement about joining The Queen, revealing that this is her first-ever telenovela role. Although new to the format, she is no stranger to working with Ferguson Films. She previously played Gladys in Rockville, a role that earned her a SAFTA award. Ngxoli is also a nine-time SAFTA nominee, further cementing her status as one of South Africa’s most respected actresses.
Season 5 also introduces several well-known actors, including Rapulana Seiphemo, Kenneth Nkosi, Jessica Nkosi and Ntando Duma. Veteran actor Menzi Ngubane was also set to appear, although his debut was delayed due to health reasons.
The Queen airs every weeknight at 9PM on DSTV Channel 161
