Spinners Season 2 to launch in more than 45 countries as action moves to Johannesburg

South African drama series Spinners is going global again, with its second season set to launch in more than 45 countries from late October.

CANAL+ and STUDIOCANAL have announced an international rollout spanning Africa and Europe, with the award-winning series being made available in multiple languages as Ethan and his crew return for a new chapter that takes them from the Cape Flats to Johannesburg.

What is Spinners Season 2 about?

Season 2 sees Ethan and his crew leave the Cape Flats behind for Johannesburg, where they are becoming rising stars in the city’s spinning scene.

Ethan, Trevor, Shane, Angelo and Amber finally have fame, love and stability within reach, but their new lives are threatened when Ethan’s former gang orchestrates a brutal ambush.

Beyond the high-speed world of spinning, the new season explores the price of power, the cycle of violence and the lasting impact of grief.

Who is in the cast of Spinners Season 2?

Cantona James reprises his role as Ethan, with Braeden Buys returning as Trevor, Dillon Windvogel as Shane, Nahum Hughes as Angelo and Chelsea Thomas as Amber.

Speaking about returning as Ethan, James said the character’s move to Johannesburg holds particular significance for him. “As a Jozi boy playing a character who moves from Cape Town to Johannesburg, there’s something deeply meaningful about telling this story. We live in a rainbow nation, but we rarely see that represented authentically on our screens, and I believe Spinners is one of those shows that brings people together in a way that feels honest and real.”

Season 2 also introduces the Maseko family, with Clementine Mosimane playing matriarch Ma Sithole, Mondli Makhoba as her bodyguard, Aphiwe Mkefe as her grandson Sayi, who becomes Ethan’s new rival, and Luyanda Zwane as her granddaughter Amahle.

Zwane calls Season 2 “an exciting moment… for African storytelling,” and a chance to “showcase my talent to international audiences… while continuing to grow as a South African actress.” Mkefe, back home in Cape Town to shoot, says “there’s something deeply important about telling authentic South African stories on a global scale, about bringing our world to audiences who may have never seen it before.”

Where and when can you watch Spinners Season 2?

Spinners Season 2 is getting one of the broadest international rollouts for a CANAL+ African original, reaching more than 45 countries across Africa and Europe.

From 25 October, the series will begin airing across Africa, including on Mzansi Magic in South Africa, Africa Magic Showcase in Nigeria, Akwaaba Magic in Ghana, Pearl Magic Prime in Uganda and Zambezi Magic in Zambia.

The series will also be dubbed into Swahili for audiences in Kenya and Tanzania and Amharic for Ethiopia, while Portuguese-subtitled editions will be available in Mozambique and Angola. French-speaking African markets will receive a French-language version on CANAL+ MAGIC.

From 26 October, the rollout expands to France and its overseas territories, as well as Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium through CANAL+.

The series will be available in editions spanning its original English, Kaaps and Afrikaans dialogue, alongside French, Swahili and Amharic dubbing and Portuguese subtitles.

What has CANAL+ said about the international release?

CANAL+ Africa Executive Vice President of Content Nomsa Philiso said the scale of the rollout reflects the company’s confidence in African storytelling.

“SPINNERS has already proven that African stories can compete on the world stage, and this rollout is us backing that conviction at scale.”

Philiso said bringing the second season to millions of viewers in multiple languages would allow audiences from Lagos to Paris to experience South African storytelling.

Who is behind Spinners Season 2?

Spinners Season 2 is co-created by Joachim Landau and showrunner Benjamin Hoffman, with Jaco Bouwer returning to direct.
Matthew Jankes and Sean Steinberg return as head writers.

The eight-part season is produced by Joachim Landau for Federation Middle East, Africa and Caribbean and co-produced by Ramadan Suleman for Natives at Large.

The series is a co-production between MultiChoice and CANAL+, with STUDIOCANAL handling international distribution.

Returning director Jaco Bouwer describes the new chapter as a particularly personal one.
“This season is personal… SPINNERS Season 2 is about the scars we carry, the ones that don’t show up in rear-view mirrors.”
