Malamulele man, 20, arrested for alleged rape of seven-year-old niece

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his seven-year-old niece in Mavambe Village in Limpopo’s Vhembe District.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the alleged incident took place on Thursday, 24 September 2026, while the child was at home with family members.

According to preliminary information released by police, the child’s grandmother became concerned after the seven-year-old complained of pain later that evening.

After speaking to the child, the matter was reported to Malamulele SAPS.

Suspect arrested and charged with rape

Police said officers responded to the report and subsequently arrested the child’s 20-year-old uncle.

He has been charged with rape and is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 September 2026. The allegations against him have not yet been tested in court.

Limpopo police commissioner condemns alleged attack

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers described the allegations as deeply disturbing and said the case would be prioritised.

“This is a deeply disturbing crime committed against a defenceless child by a person entrusted with her care,” Scheepers said.

He commended Malamulele police for their response and said he had instructed that the case receive priority to ensure a thorough investigation. “We will not relent in protecting the children of Limpopo,” Scheepers added.

Police investigations are continuing.
