Skeem Saam is welcoming a new face to Turf, with actor Josias Moleele taking over the role of Marothi Maphuthuma from Macks Papo.
Marothi has been part of the SABC 1’s popular Skeem Saam story for years, with Papo’s portrayal making the character a familiar face to viewers. Moleele now steps into the role, bringing his own interpretation to the character.
Why is Macks Papo leaving Skeem Saam?
Papo returned to Skeem Saam earlier this year as Marothi, but the production says personal reasons meant he was unable to continue filming.
According to the production, Papo’s availability could not be aligned with the remaining filming schedule. While Skeem Saam would have loved to continue working with the actor, the decision was made to recast the role.
Macks Papo, also known as Macks Senatla, has built a career across South African television and film. His previous television roles include Tsheko Mashabela in Egoli: Place of Gold and Ivan Tshinawa in Rhythm City.
Reflecting on Papo’s contribution to the soapie, Skeem Saam PR Manager Yvonne Siphuka says his portrayal of Marothi resonated deeply with viewers.
“Macks has made a meaningful contribution to Skeem Saam over the years, and his portrayal of Marothi is something that has resonated deeply with our viewers. He brought a distinct personality and presence to the character and played an important role in making Marothi the character audiences came to know and love.”
“It has been wonderful working with Macks and having him be part of the Skeem Saam family. We are grateful for the contribution he has made to the production and to the story world over the years.”
