Actor Sicelo Buthelezi is joining the popular SABC 1 Skeem Saam. Sicelo will play the role of Tobias “Toby” Maswahla, a university student with a mischievous side. Toby’s journey on the show starts with trouble, but he aims to turn his life around after moving to Turfloop.
Who is Toby Maswahla in Skeem Saam?
Toby is a character with a troubled past. After causing serious problems in Johannesburg, he gets expelled from university and is forced to leave the city. He relocates to Turfloop, where he starts fresh. Toby begins attending Turfloop University and even takes on a part-time job. While he tries to stay out of trouble, it remains to be seen if trouble will stay away from him.
Speaking on his excitement about joining Skeem Saam he said, “Having joined the Skeem Saam family has been amazing. It’s a different environment, but it still feels like home. I’m enjoying it.”
Sicelo’s career before Skeem Saam
Before landing his role in Skeem Saam, Sicelo Buthelezi was best known for his portrayal of Teddy in the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela Gomora. He starred in all four seasons of Gomora before the show was canceled.
Sicelo’s standout performance as Teddy earned him recognition in the industry. In 2020, he won the Outstanding Newcomer award at the 4th Royalty Soapie Awards for his role in Gomora. His character, Toby Maswahla, will make his first appearance on Skeem Saam on April 2, 2024.
