Tebogo Magubane has officially announced his departure from Munghana Lonene FM after 15 years at the station. Magubane, who has been serving as Programmes Manager since September 2018, shared his farewell on the station’s popular breakfast show Phaphama, alongside hosts DJ Brian and Connizer. While he is leaving the station, he is not stepping away from radio, as he is set to join Tshwane FM.
He first joined the Xitsonga SABC radio station in 2008 as a presenter on shows such as International Top 30 and Ta Mbilu Yanga. Later that same year, he moved into production, where he worked behind the scenes on several programmes, including the flagship breakfast show Phaphama, which was hosted by DJ Brian and Sydney Baloyi.
Over the years, Magubane continued to grow within the SABC. In 2016, he took on the role of Acting Executive Producer for SABC Education for six months. He was later appointed Acting Programmes Manager in December 2017 before securing the position permanently in September 2018.
In a statement, Magubane reflected on his journey, saying, “I bid farewell to this remarkable radio station that has been my home for the past 15 incredible years. The radio waves beckoned me to explore new horizons, and I eagerly accepted the challenge.”
He added, “From presenter, I evolved into the role of producer for various shows, including the flagship breakfast show Phaphama and the Top 30, working diligently behind the scenes.”
Magubane also spoke about his passion for sound and creativity, saying, “Driven by a thirst for knowledge and growth, I embraced a specialised role as a producer for imaging. It was here that I discovered the transformative power of sound, crafting the distinct identity of Munghana Lonene FM through jingles, promos and creative audio elements.”
He went on to thank the station’s listeners for their continued support, adding that their loyalty played a key role in the station’s success and growth over the years.
