AKA Wants To Alleviate Student Debt

It is decided- the Fees For All Concert will take place at The ticket Pro Dome on the 15th of February next year, as announced by seasoned host Hulisani Ravele. At a press conference held earlier today, Forbes addressed the media regarding the previously named “FeesMustFall” event. The first of The Megafees foundation initiative, the aim of Fees For All concert is to amass between R10 to R15 million toward settling student debt and funding tuition fees. The Mega Fees Foundation, whose mission is to help individuals who are facing socio-economic challenges further their studies, has recently been set to receive donations and pledges.

Forbes said his idea came following the feel-good, infectious and viral #KFCPropasal and what unfolded next. As brands pledged thousands of rands toward the couple’s wedding, Forbes had an epiphany and asked himself, “what if all those brands paid attention to actual issues?” “There are bigger issues at hand,” he continued, “what if I performed, did a free concert, take all the proceeds and all those brands took the same energy and maybe raise R10 million for students?”

Student debt and academic exclusion from higher education as a result of financial constraints are still an ongoing social issue.

In reflection, Forbes expressed that he had hoped more celebrities/artist had come forward to donate to other universities after he had donated R100 000 to the Wits University SRC Humanitarian fund earlier this year. But that did not pick up.

This time, his ambition is to involve big brands and the line up promises to include his industry friends and colleagues.

“Let’s give corporate SA a channel through which they can make a difference” he said in closing.

Ticket sales will be available on Computicket from the 5th of December.
