SABC news and talk radio station SAfm has announced the appointment of Sechaba Gqeba. She joins the station following the resignation of Phemelo Motene at the end of June. The seasoned MC and speaker will host the midday lifestyle show, Living Redefined with Sechaba Gqeba 13:00-15:00 on weekdays.
With over a decade of experience, her commercial radio breakthrough came up when she won a region-wide annual talent search hosted by 947 previously known as Highveld Stereo and thereafter worked for Eye Witness News (EWN.) This then secured her role as a newsreader for some of South Africa’s leading national radio platforms, namely; SAfm & Radio 2000, which were overtaken by her desire to host her radio show.
Her desire was fulfilled when an opportunity availed itself at Kaya FM. She has since worked for Kfm and hosted a lunchtime show. As a TV presenter, Gqeba has been hosting the popular SABC 2 talk show Motswako since April 2018. She was also named among the 2018 Mail & Guardian Top 200 South Africans
