Somizi Steps Down From Idols SA

He joined Idols SA in 2015 to work alongside veteran Idols SA judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkanyi, and Gareth Cliff for the eleventh season of the TV talent competition and is now taking a break from the show following abuse allegations against him. His exit from Idols means there’s a vacancy for a new judge.

M-Net’s channel, Mzansi Magic, released a statement in which they said the two have come to a mutual agreement where Somizi would take time off while the matter is being resolved. Earlier this week, the SABC sent out a similar statement reporting how Somizi will be taking a break from his Metro FM show.

The statement reads, “M-Net and Somizi Mhlongo met to discuss his role on Idols SA in light of the allegations made against him. We have reached a mutual agreement that Mr Mhlongo will take some time off to deal with his personal circumstances until this matter has been resolved. Viewers will still see Mr Mhlongo on their screens until Sunday, 22 August 2021, as the audition shows for Idols SA were pre-recorded.”
