PSL Confirms Details For The DSTV Premiership 2020/2021 Season

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed all the important details for the upcoming 2020/21 Dstv Premiership campaign which will kick-off next weekend.

Mamelodi Sundowns will start their title defence with a crunch encounter against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 24 October.

At the same time, Baroka FC will be home against Maritzburg United at Peter Mokaba Stadium and Lamontville Golden Arrows will travel to the Free State to play Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr. Molemela Stadium.

AmaZulu will host Orlando Pirates at Jonsson Kings Park while Supersport United will be playing against Black Leopards at Lucus Moripe Stadium, both matches live at 8:15 PM.

On Sunday, 25 October, Swallows FC will play their first match in the professional ranks since the 2014-15 season when they were relegated.

They will travel to Stellenbosch to play Stellenbosch FC at The Danie Craven Stadium at 3:30 PM.

In Thohoyandou at the same time, History will be made when the rookies Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and TS Galaxy play their first match in the topflight league at 3:30 PM.

In the meantime, you don’t have to wait that long to witness some domestic football as this weekend the annual MTN8 competition sets to get the PSL 2020/21 campaign underway.

The top eight teams from last season’s league campaign will battle it out for a shot at the first piece of silverware. Still following a consistent seeding format each year with the first taking on the eighth, second taking on seventh, third taking on sixth and fourth taking on fifth in the MTN8 quarterfinals.

Saturday afternoon 17th October newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila go up against defending champions SuperSport United before Orlando Pirates host Cape Town City FC in the evening.

Kaizer Chiefs will host Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon before Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloem Celtic complete the MTN8 quarterfinal round on Sunday evening.

The Champions of the MTN8 tournament will walk away with R8 million while the seven remaining sides walk away each with R800 000 each.

As far as my predictions are concerned, I’ll be playing it safe by backing Bloem Celtic, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and TTM to proceed to the MTN8 semi-finals. I am also expecting a low-scoring match in all four quarterfinals given the fact that it’s the first game of the season following both an extremely short-off season and pre-season.
