Thando Thabethe Resigns From 5FM

Media Personality Thando Thabethe has resigned from 5FM after five years with the station. She shared the news of her departure from the SABC commercial radio station on social media and thanked everyone who has been part of her radio career.

Thando discovered her love for radio at UJFM while at the University of Johannesburg studying towards her Bcom Accounting degree. In 2010 she was headhunted by the YFM programmes manager to join the biggest youth radio station in South Africa. Her charm and ability to connect with young people on a level many struggles to, saw her rising from hosting a graveyard show to a primetime show in a matter of 6 months.

In May 2014 she left YFM to join 5FM as a traffic reporter on the afternoon drives show with Roger Goode as well as hosting her show Beats By Demand on Sundays between 10 AM to 2 PM. She was then moved to a weekday slot to host The Thando Thabooty Show between 10 AM to 1 PM. In 2017 she was moved to the afternoon drive show, The Thabooty Drive, this move saw her become the first female to host a drive time show on 5FM.

Her final show is on Thursday 5 March. In an exclusive interview with Channel24, Thando reveals she wants to focus on her acting. “I start shooting Housekeepers season 2 on Friday, and we’re broadening horizons into the world in that sphere,” she said
