South Africa’s most-watched show Uzalo has confirmed speculation that two of its lead actors, Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe, are leaving the show. Baby who play Gabisile Mdletshe and Qhabanga Khumalo respectively el, are set to depart the show at the end of its sixth season.
Talks about the actors’ departure have been spreading, and now the show’s producers have finally put the speculation to rest. In June Siyabonga was rumoured to have been fired from the Stained Glass TV soapie, he, however, squashed the rumours in an Instagram video.
A statement issued by the show’s producers reads : “Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe will be leaving Uzalo by the end of season six. The story has taken this direction and will give us a riveting, high-stakes ending for both characters.
“The decision was made in consultation with the two actors. Both have given a tremendous amount to their roles on Uzalo and we are forever grateful for that. We will be introducing a host of new characters played by SA’s best. Please stay tuned and see as the story unfolds.”
The actors are being written out as their character’s storylines will come to an end, however they won’t die. They’ll be replaced by new characters who arrive in November. Gabisile and Qhabanga will make appearances on the soapie until early February 2021 when Season 7 starts.
