Actor Mpho Sebeng dies in car accident at 31

Actor Mpho Sebeng has tragically passed away in a car accident on Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, in Potchefstroom. He was 31 years old. 

Sebeng’s family confirmed the news in a statement, expressing their deep sorrow and requesting privacy as they grieve. “Mpho met his untimely death in the early hours of Sunday due to a tragic car accident,” said family spokesperson Oupa Morake. “While we appreciate the outpouring of love and condolences, we ask for space to process this loss.”

Born in Soweto on December 1, 1992, Sebeng grew up in Witpoortjie, Randburg, and pursued politics and philosophy at the University of Witwatersrand. He began his acting career with roles in SABC’s Justice for All and Zero Tolerance. His breakout role came with the drama Ring of Lies on Mzansi Magic, earning him a Best Actor nomination at the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

Sebeng’s career flourished with notable performances in Savage Beauty, The Brave Ones, and Miseducation on Netflix, as well as roles in The Queen, The Throne, Z’bondiwe, The Estate, and Scandal!. His film credits include Winnie Mandela, Mngani Wam’, Thando, and The Jakes are Missing, for which he was nominated for an AMVCA Best Supporting Actor Award in 2017.
