Showmax is set to release its latest original series, Soft Life, produced by Urban Brew Studios. This gripping drama stars Zizipho Buti, alongside notable talents such as Mampho Brescia, Katlego Lebogang, and the acclaimed Nambitha Mpumlwana. The show, directed by SAFTA winners Nozipho Nkelemba and Nthabiseng Mokoena, premieres on November 18, 2024, with new episodes available every Monday.

First look at Soft Life
Showmax has unveiled an exciting first-look teaser featuring Zizipho Buti in her role as Owami Gqoji. In a bid to settle her mother’s rising medical bills, Owami Gqoji plunges into the secretive world of high-society companionship. Fearful that her new profession could shatter everything she holds dear, Owami must keep her dual life hidden.

Cast and Characters
Zizipho Buti, known for her roles in Nkululeko and Generations: The Legacy, embodies the complex character of Owami. “Owami has made me realise that there are so many young people who have found themselves in such compromising situations,” says Zizipho. “I hope that the story will encourage people to have honest conversations about this.”

Mampho Brescia (Iris in Isibaya) plays Zam, the owner of a business called NubiaBlaq, which is a cover for her escort agency, The Girlfriend Experience (GFE). Zam is sophisticated yet strict, ruling her establishment with an iron fist. Katlego Lebogang (Spinners) plays Zinhle, the Queen Bee at GFE, who becomes a mentor to Owami.

SAFTA winner Nambitha Mpumlwana (Saints & Sinners, Yizo Yizo, Tsotsi, The Lab) plays Judge Iris Makhaza, the overprotective mom of Owami’s boyfriend.

Behind the Scenes
Created by Vusi Zion for Afriprime, Soft Life consists of 13 episodes that tackle relevant societal issues. SAFTA winners Nozipho Nkelemba (Gomora, Umakoti Wethu) and Nthabiseng Mokoena (Law, Love and Betrayal, The Wife) direct.

Soft Life is a forward-thinking show where we are dealing with everyday issues happening in society, holding up a mirror to the public,” says Nozipho. “It was interesting for me to see how far this subculture [if we can coin it that] has grown since my younger days and how it’s shown so openly in comparison to a few years ago.”

Nthabiseng adds, “I am excited about the great entertainment that the talent brings to the storyline. The cast really immersed themselves in the characters they portrayed; it was awesome to see what they are capable of. More than anything, viewers should also look forward to the new faces who will bring much joy, laughter, and sometimes heartache to our screens.”

Mark your calendars for November 13, 2024, to witness the premiere of Soft Life on Showmax.
