Launched in 2013 by former Generations actress Winnie Ntshaba the Royalty Soapie are back for their 4th instalment. The Royalty Soapie Awards recognize and celebrate all major contributors to the South African Soap Opera industry. The awards celebrate everyone who contributes to the industry from actors, make-up artists, costume designer, or producers.
This year the awards have added two Recognition Awards namely Social Cohesion, which will be awarded to a soapie production that has demonstrated and/or addressed the most current social affairs/social ills affecting our communities. The second recognition award will be awarded to a Background Actor in a soapie production that has been essential in creating the tone, mood and atmosphere of the soapie scene(s)
Popular Emmy-nominated The River leads with 14 nominations and Gomora follows with 13. The nominees were announced by Winnie Ntshaba and Comedian Mpho Pops in a simulcast broadcast on SABC 1, YouTube and Facebook. Here is a list of this year’s nominees :
