Former Liverpool FC Head Coach Jürgen Klopp, a prominent name in the world of soccer, will take on the role of Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull starting January 1, 2025. In this position, he will oversee Red Bull’s extensive network of soccer clubs worldwide, as announced by the Austrian energy drinks giant in a recent statement.

Klopp’s background
At 57, Klopp is recognised for his successful nine years as the manager of Liverpool FC. Under his leadership, Liverpool won several major titles, including the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League. He previously coached Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

New role and responsibilities
In his new role, Klopp will not be involved in the daily operations of the clubs. Instead, he will collaborate with sports directors to enhance Red Bull’s soccer strategy. He will also help discover and nurture talented players and coaches globally.

Klopp shared his enthusiasm for this new opportunity, stating, “After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this. The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.”

Red Bull’s vision
Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s CEO for Corporate Projects and Investments, expressed his excitement about Klopp’s appointment, “We are very proud of this outstanding and certainly the strongest signing in Red Bull’s soccer history. Jürgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma. In his role as Head of Soccer, he will be a game changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development.”

Klopp will be officially presented as Global Head of Soccer at a press conference scheduled for mid-January 2025.

A new chapter for Klopp
This position at Red Bull marks Klopp’s first role since leaving Liverpool. He will oversee Red Bull’s soccer network, which includes clubs like RB Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls. Additionally, he will support Red Bull’s scouting operations and contribute to the training of coaches.

Klopp emphasised his role as a mentor, saying,  “I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more.”

While the length of Klopp’s contract hasn’t been disclosed, Sky Germany reports that there is a clause allowing him to leave if the German Football Association wants him as their national coach.
