Get ready for an explosive new legal Showmax drama premiering on September 5, 2024! Law, Love & Betrayal (LLB) brings you a gripping story of a determined township lawyer who fights her way into a high-profile family firm in Sandton, only to uncover a web of secrets that mirrors her own.
Dineo Rasedile, known for her roles in The Estate, Scandal!, MTV Shuga, and Justice Served, takes on her first lead role as Gugu Mabaso, a fierce lawyer with a relentless drive. “Each episode’s cases are fascinating,” says Dineo. “While obviously fictionalised, this show isn’t make-believe; we’re quoting real acts and cases. I learned so much while filming the show; it was eye-opening to realise how little we know about the law.”
Joining her is Nimrod Nkosi, familiar from Utatakho, Isibaya, and The Queen, playing Gatsha Gumede, the founder of Gumede & Associates, where a succession battle is brewing. “Showmax has raised the bar in terms of production quality – and the story is enticing,” says Nimrod. “It’s a unique show set in the glitz and glamour world of law, generational wealth, and scheming.”
SAFTA-winning presenter and actress Pearl Modiadie, known for her work in Rhythm City, Generations, Scandal!, Redemption, and Black Tax plays Ayanda Gumede-Williams, Gatsha’s ambitious, cutthroat daughter, one of the most brilliant lawyers at the firm. “LLB has a mix of everything: law, love, and a lot of betrayal,” says Pearl. “It will captivate those passionate about law and breathtaking cinematography, as well as those drawn to complex love stories and strong ambitious women in the corporate world. We have great fashionable moments as well! The series features strong characters who each stand out in their own unique way, and the storyline is rich and layered. I’m confident it’s going to leave a huge impact on South Africa.”
The 13-episode legal drama moves between Tembisa and Sandton. Created by Thandi Ramathesele, a veteran producer from 7de Laan, and produced by Izwi Multimedia, LLB is directed by a talented team including Nthabiseng Tau (Youngins, Outlaws), Nthabiseng Mokoena (The Wife, Gomora, Fatal Seduction), and Christo Davids (Spoorloos, Legacy, Hartklop).
Law, Love & Betrayal premieres on Showmax on 5 September 2024, with new episodes every Thursday until 28 November 2024.
