Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin confident ahead of new season’s first competitive match

As Borussia Dortmund gears up for their first competitive match of the season, new coach Nuri Sahin is brimming with confidence. The former Dortmund midfielder, who has stepped into the managerial role replacing Edin Terzic, is enthusiastic about his team’s progress during the preseason.

Sahin, speaking at a press conference ahead of the German Cup clash against Phönix Lübeck, expressed optimism about the team’s readiness. “We’re still on our honeymoon,” he stated, referring to the early days of his tenure. “But I have the feeling in every training session that everyone knows what it’s all about. You can see where we want to go.”

The match against Phönix Lübeck, a fourth-division side, will be Sahin’s official debut as Dortmund coach. He emphasised that the preparation for this game has been as rigorous as it will be for their Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt the following week. “We never underestimate our opponents,” Sahin added, highlighting his commitment to a thorough and respectful approach to every match.

However, Dortmund will be without new signing Serhou Guirassy for the Cup game due to a knee injury. Despite this setback, Sahin remains confident in his squad’s ability to perform well.
