Black Coffee Wins Grammy

Top South African DJ and record producer has nabbed his first Grammy award. You will now be addressing Black Coffee as a Grammy award-winning artist! Mr. Coffee trounced tight competition to emerge victorious in the Best Dance/Electronic Album for Subconsciously. The critically lauded project, which contains 12 tracks and a slew of high-powered collaborations, debuted in 2021. It’s also his sixth studio album, which reflects the years that have gone behind the coming of Black Coffee’s ascendance to the world’s top leagues.

Accepting the award with his eldest son Esona Maphumulo on Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where the 64th Annual Grammy Awards were held, Black Coffee expressed a lot of gratitude. “I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal souls and help people go through whatever they’re going through in life”, he said.

The hitmaker’s big triumph has received a lot of praise. President Cyril Ramaphosa joined in on Twitter, congratulating Black Coffee for his achievement. “Congratulations to Black Coffee for being awarded the Best Dance/Electronic Music award for his album Subconsciously at last night’s #GRAMMYs. Thank you for flying the flag and inspiring a new generation of talent to take over the world.”

Subconsciously was nominated alongside Fallen Embers — Illenium, Music Is The Weapon (Reloaded) — Major Lazer, Shockwave — Marshmello, Free Love — Sylvan Esso and Judgement — Ten City.
