Actress Masasa Mbangeni is making a triumphant return to the small screen after a three and a half year absence from the popular soapie, Scandal!. Known for her portrayal of the conniving and ruthless Thembeka Shezi, Masasa left the show in 2016.
During her break from Scandal!, she had diverse roles across theater productions and continued to captivate audiences on television in shows such as Harvest, The River, The Republic, Thola, It’s Complicated, and Housekeepers.
“I’m so excited to be back. I was quite nervous too because I thought it has been years – a lot of things has changed, but a lot of things have also remained the same,” Mbangeni shared with SowetanLIVE.
“Walking into the set the first time I was super nervous and it felt like the first time. But as soon as the camera started rolling it became familiar again.
“Contrary to popular belief, Scandal! and myself parted on very good terms. When I was asked to come back the timing made sense.”
Her compelling performance as Thembeka Shezi earned her the coveted SAFTA Golden Horn for Best Actress in a leading role. Now, fans can eagerly anticipate her comeback on 31 December 2019, where she will reprise her role alongside Bongile Mantsai’s character, Mthuzi Mayiza. Together, this dynamic duo promises to deliver surprises and suspense, ensuring viewers will be on the edge of their seats.
